Creative Entrepreneur Thrives in Hunt County

Jessica Causey can't sit still, and that restless creative energy drives everything she does. At Hunt County Hair LLC, where she operates as a stylist at Carrie's Cuts, Causey brings the same artistic passion to hair coloring that she channels into her community choir performances and her side business designing T-shirts.

'I was the child of starving artist parents that said 'Get a real job' and save,' Causey said. 'I could never shake my artistic entrepreneurial spirit.' So she found a way to do both.

Causey's approach to hair styling reflects her artistic training and attention to detail. After completing her education at the Aveda Institute in Austin in 2012, she learned therapeutic massage techniques that she integrates into every service. Her color work uses individual pigments mixed by hand and calculated by the gram — 'similar to paint mixer,' she explains.

Using Moroccanoil products for styling and color services, Causey focuses on leaving hair healthier than when clients arrive. She schedules cutting services on Mondays and Fridays, dedicating Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays to color work. Her client base reflects the diversity of Hunt County: busy mothers seeking reasonably priced time away, working women who appreciate online scheduling between travels, retired women who love a good shampoo, and 'a handful of men that enjoy chatting about nonsense.'

Since 2019, she's operated HoneyBurst Art, putting her drawings on T-shirts and other apparel. Music also plays a central role in her life through involvement with local community groups. 'I don't like to sit, and music is a huge inspiration and muse for me,' Causey said.

'There are not many things a group of people can all agree on, but when driven to produce music — all creeds and differences melt out of the picture and you collectively are able to progress in a unified direction,' she said. That same unified vision drives her approach to hair styling, where technical precision meets artistic expression.
