Greenville SportsPark Project Exceeds $60 Million

City Council approves another change order, bringing total cost increases to nearly $4.3 million above original budget.

The Greenville City Council on Tuesday approved another cost increase for the city’s SportsPark and Reecy Davis recreation center project, pushing the total construction price above $60 million.

The council approved Change Order No. 21 for the project in the amount of $368,556.33, according to agenda documents presented during the meeting. The increase includes more than $303,000 in skate park enhancements along with mechanical, landscaping and mezzanine modifications.

City records show the original construction agreement approved in 2024 totaled about $55.8 million. With previous change orders and the latest amendment, the project now stands at more than $60.1 million.

According to the city’s agenda report, the largest portion of the latest increase comes from a skate park enhancement package totaling more than $303,000. Other additions include revised duct work, landscaping clarifications, mezzanine fan layout adjustments and fitness deck modifications.

The project’s contractual completion date remains June 15, according to attached construction documents.

The SportsPark and Reecy Davis expansion project has accumulated more than $3.9 million in prior change orders before Tuesday’s approval, city records show.

The change order was presented by Parks and Recreation Director Brett Quarles, who recommended council approval.

In other business Tuesday, the council approved Greenville’s long-awaited downtown plan, a redevelopment framework that has been in development since 2022 and is intended to guide future infrastructure investment and revitalization efforts downtown.

The council also discussed a new lease structure for aircraft hangars at Majors Field Airport after the expiration of a long-term lease arrangement with Blue Sky Holdings. A proposed agreement establishes one-year lease terms for tenants renting city-owned hangars.

The council additionally reviewed a revised agreement with Axon Enterprise Inc. for TASER 10 equipment and police training.
